Structural biology is beautiful. We like making movies to illustrate our science, because 1 - it's fun, and 2 - it helps communicate.
Movies are made by Max using Blender, Molecular Nodes, and (sometimes) PyMOL/ChimeraX.
Some movies have been clickbait-ified for YouTube purposes.
Toxic repetitive gene synthesis by a reverse transcriptase provides phage defence
This illustrates our paper on the DRT2 phage defence system.
Structural basis for retrotransposition by the R2 retrotransposon
This illustrates our paper on the R2Bm retrotransposon.
A complete movie of splicing
At the end of my PhD I made some movies to illustrate pre-mRNA splicing. There had just been an explosion in structural knowledge of splicing, and it seemed a good time to try to synthesise this information together.
This movie and 6 more were made part of this review, which was also one of Kiyoshi's last papers. The rest of the movies are here .
